shelves, programming a firing schedule, kiln safety

2. Volume control and design

3. Fusible products, sheet glass, powders and frits,
stringers and rods, paints, and other products

4. Annealing

The purpose of the workshop is to give you a basic understanding of what is required to fuse glass. The workshop is designed for someone with no previous glass experience. However, if you are a glass fuser and would like to learn how to make a wall sconce, you are welcome. If it is your desire to create a pair of wall sconces to hang in your home, but you are not interested in purchasing several thousand dollars worth of equipment, then this workshop is for you. If however, you are thinking of fusing glass but would like some firsthand experience and knowledge before you start to spend your money, this workshop will pay for itself many times over.

Some things to consider before signing up.

1. You will be on your feet during the workshop, you need to be able to stand for an hour at a time.
2. No smoking inside the studio. You will have to go
outside if you need a smoke.
3. The workshop will be limited to six participants, groups are welcome.
4. Pack a lunch if you need it, we will take a break.
5. Wear a short sleeve shirt , and long pants that can get dirty.
6. You will be required to sign a waiver. Glass is  sharp, and kilns get hot. All precautions will be taken for your safety. I have not hurt myself in 12 years of fusing. So do not worry too much about this.
7. It is important that you can make all four workshops.
8. I am a stickler for showing up on time.
9. Your tuition is due when you sign up. No refunds, if  you reserve a space, it is yours. If for some unforeseen reason you miss a session, we will reschedule you when that session repeats itself.

It is my intention to open the sometimes mystical world of hot glass to those of you whose spirit is moved to explore that artistic spirit within you. Nothing is more satisfying to me then to open one of my kilns and discover the treasures inside. I am like a child on Christmas eve while I wait for the kiln to cool down enough to get inside. It is difficult to explain the joy I get working in this art form. Hanging a beautiful art glass piece in your home that you created, is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have. If you are ready to explore the artist within you, or just want to cook some glass and have some fun, join me in my studio and we will make magic happen.

If you plan on attending the workshop, and already know that you plan on taking this art form serious. Then I strongly suggest you purchase the following book.
Kiln Firing Glass : Glass Fusing Book one by Boyce Lundstrom This classic reference, originally co-written with Daniel Schwoerer at Bullseye in 1983, set the standards, explanations of compatibility , firing, equipment and methods are still unchallenged as the foundations of kilnwork.
